NBC Sunday Night Football Selects Vista Systems Spyders

Phoenix, AZ—October 9— A large array of Vista Systems Spyders helped NBC Sports kick off its “NBC Sunday Night
Football” studio show, which is broadcast in High Definition. A compliment of networked Spyders facilitate displays on a 12-cube video wall behind the talent on the show’s new set.

The Spyder handles 16 varied inputs plus keys and provides smooth image motion throughout, a feat that no other product on the market can handle. The video wall, in a 4x3 cube configuration which produces a 16x9 aspect ratio for viewers, displays a range of HD content, including game clips and other video feeds plus logos, stats and additional graphics. The Spyders are controlled via Vista Systems software.

“NBC Sports visited our booth at NAB and invited us to demo Spyder,” recalls Victor Vettorello, Vista Systems’ director of applications engineering. “Spyder’s ease of use and superior image quality were major factors in sealing the deal. Spyder’s ability to do a large number of PIPs on the cubes simultaneously and to display content anywhere on the array were additional points in its favor.” “Broadcast technical directors’ largest concern is workflow.

Spyder’s control interface, with its intuitive design and ease of use, fits in perfectly.” “Broadcasters are under increasing pressure to produce high tech looking sets with a variety of display options at their disposal,” continues Vettorello. “The Spyder is a perfect compliment because of the support of multiple display technologies at different configurations, resolutions, and formats. Because the Spyder can do this from one point of control, the broadcaster’s integration of visual elements into the set is much more dynamic as well as simple. Broadcasters are also challenged with incorporating many different digital and analog formats from standard definition to HD to high resolution computer graphics. With Spyder’s universal inputs, there is never a concern about hardware or input formats.”
